Patron's Desk

It is a matter of pride for all of us in the Cluster University Srinagar that Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road is organizing the 5th Session of J&K Women Science Congress. Women have made important contributions in the advancement of mankind. Who can forget the contributions of Marie Curie in Chemistry and Emmy Noether in Mathematical Sciences? In our own State, women have left indelible mark in all spheres of life, whether it is administration, health, teaching or research. It was a proud moment for me when I learnt that more than 60% enrolled students in M. Phil/Ph. D research programmes are women in many Universities of the State.
In today’s science, the major advancements are made through interdisciplinary research and in this respect the Science Congress plays an important role as it brings together the whole scientific community working in diverse fields of science. J&K Women Science Congress is being held annually on the pattern of the Indian Science Congress where intensive deliberations are made on scientific and technological research achievements, in particular, at the regional level and towards the end recommendations are made and presented to the State Government for policy interventions and implementations.
Wishing all the success to the 5th J&K Women Science Congress and let me end with the quote from Marie Curie “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less”.
